New England Patriots: Can They Land the Final Piece of the Puzzle in the 2025 NFL Draft?
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots have added multiple playmakers through the 2024 NFL Draft. Players like Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker could make immediate impacts. But once the 2025 Draft season is upon us, could they still use that true number one receiver? It all depends on how Polk and Baker look this season. Although, if the Patriots land another decent Draft pick, they may be in prime position to add the number one weapon in the Draft.

Luther Burden III is a receiver for Missouri. He is projected to be the top weapon selected in the 2025 Draft and may even go in the top five depending on his season. Burden is incredibly entertaining to watch, and shows off his playmaking ability every time he gets the ball. He is built a lot like Ja’Marr Chase from the Bengals, standing at five foot eleven inches, two hundred and eight pounds. Chase is only an inch taller and weighs right around two hundred pounds. Both Burden and Chase show off spectacular after-the-catch abilities, and a great contested catch ability. If Burden can turn into a player like Ja’Marr Chase, one NFL team will be very happy they selected him.

If the Patriots select Burden in the 2025 NFL Draft, it will send shockwaves throughout the entire region of New England. The Patriots adding Burden into a receiver room of Ja’Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, and DeMario Douglas, will truly be loading up on weapons. Burden would be the true number one weapon that New England has needed for years. Not to mention he would dictate coverage, which would open up huge opportunities for the other playmakers on the roster. If the Patriots wish to give their rookie quarterback, Drake Maye, all the help he will need, then Burden should be a very high priority heading into the off-season.

Will the Patriots be willing to use another top asset on an offensive player?

The Patriots used almost all of their 2024 Draft picks on offense, so will they be willing to use another first-round pick next year on a weapon? With a great defense already in place in New England, they shouldn’t hesitate whatsoever if they have the chance to take Luther Burden. Burden would cause an immense amount of excitement among the Patriots fanbase, and with good reason. Any time a team has the opportunity to add an elite weapon to their roster, they should take it.

They will also have Burden on a rookie deal, instead of having to pay huge money to a free agent or give up Draft capital to trade for a player. Overall, if Burden is added to this already talented receiver room, it will be incredibly beneficial for not only Drake Maye but the entire New England organization.
