Miami Dolphins Projected to Add ‘Polarizing’ Pass Rusher
Dan Rainville / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Miami Dolphins could go into the 2024 NFL Draft prioritizing a significant upgrade to the pass rush.

Given uncertainty surrounding Bradley Chubb’s torn ACL and Jaelen Phillips’ ruptured Achilles tendon, Miami could look to bolster the front-seven with multiple selections during this year’s draft, including in the first round.

While pass rush isn’t expected to be a strength in this year’s draft class, overall, there could be several gifted prospects at the position when Miami goes on the clock with the No. 21 overall pick.

Chop Robinson a Perfect Miami Dolphins Fit?

One of the most explosive pass rushers in this year’s class, Chop Robinson, out of Penn State, could slide out of the top-15 selections and could be the ideal pick for general manager Chris Grier and the Dolphins.

Bleacher Report’s Maurice Morton put together a list of the most polarizing prospects in this year’s class, and their potential destinations, linking Robinson to the Dolphins in Round 1.

“The Miami Dolphins could take Robinson right outside the top 20,” Morton writes. “They have a glaring need on the edge with Bradley Chubb (torn ACL) and Jaelan Phillips (torn Achilles) coming off season-ending injuries.

“With Chubb’s extensive injury history, Miami could draft a pass-rusher to shore up the position for the long term.”

Robinson’s explosiveness was evident in his game-film during two standout seasons in Happy Valley, even if production didn’t always follow suit. However, as a rotational pass-rusher alongside Chubb and Phillips in 2024 and with the potential to develop in the future, could become a force to be reckoned with along the Dolphins’ front-seven.

Chop Robinson NFL Draft Scouting Report

Over the past two seasons in Happy Valley, Robinson logged 9.5 sacks with 41 total tackles but 17.5 tackles for loss, underscoring his ability to be a disruptive force in the backfield.

“Demeioun “Chop” Robinson might have the best combination of get-off and bend in this draft class,” The Bleacher Report Scouting Department writes. “He’s lightning-quick off the ball and very flexible in his lower body.

“He’s a top-tier athlete which, combined with how well he sets up his pass-rush moves, gives him a ton of potential as an edge-rusher in the NFL.”

As Pro Football Focus points out, Robinson posted an elite 20.9 pass-rush win-rate last season as well as an elite 93.1 true pass-rush set grade. During the NFL Combine, Robinson clocked a blistering 4.48 40-yard dash, and running the short-shuttle in 4.25 seconds.

“Robinson is an alien-like athlete,” PFF writes. “He makes some jaw-dropping plays where he can fire off the line and get into the backfield with ease. However, outside of his first step and fast hands, he is an incomplete pass-rusher.

“Most of his backfield production comes from him feasting off inferior tackles. He could also struggle with length against NFL-caliber tackles.”
