Jason Witten takes high school coaching job in Dallas

Much like Philip Rivers, it appears Jason Witten will take his talents to high school football.

The former Dallas Cowboys tight end will become head coach at the Liberty Christian School in Dallas/Fort Worth, the team announced Monday.

“Faith. Family. Football. In this next chapter, it is important to me to be the best father and husband I can be, while making a positive impact in the community and share the wisdom I’ve accumulated over the years to positively impact the next generation,” Witten said in a statement.

Liberty Christian owns a 5-15 record over the last two seasons, including a 2-7 record in 2020. The hiring of Witten should help move the program in the right direction.

Witten retired after the 2017 season and took a broadcasting job before deciding to return to the Cowboys in 2019. He spent the 2020 season with the Las Vegas Raiders and plans to sign a one-day contract with Dallas to retire a Cowboy.

In 16 seasons with the Cowboys, the 38-year-old had 1,215 receptions for 12,977 yards and 72 touchdowns. He is an 11-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro and was named Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2012.
