We recently told you that the Dallas Cowboys have a vision for the tight end they might add in this year's NFL Draft. As one NFL source revealed to CowboysSI.com, "They have good tight ends … but it looks like they’re trying to find their "Kelce.''

That would be Travis Kelce.

And maybe that would be Michael Mayer.

Or maybe Mayer is the "The Next Jason Witten.''

And that'd be pretty good, too.

The Cowboys, in the wake of Dalton Schultz leaving for Houston in free agency, already employ youngsters Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot. They've shown promise as they enter their second NFL seasons.

Georgia tight end Darnell Washington is a first-round prospect. He's a 30 Visits guy. Cameron Latu of Alabama, Brayden Willis of Oklahoma and Payne Durham, of Purdue have all had Cowboys sitdowns. At the Combine, Dallas met Dalton Kincaid of Utah and Luke Schoonmaker of Michigan.

Plus there are other guys like Sam LaPorta of Iowa and Luke Musgrave of Oregon State, and ...

Dane Brugler, a trusted media-scout voice, telling us that at pick No. 26 in this NFL Draft, he's obliged to mock to the Cowboys the guy some think is the best tight end in the class, Notre Dame's Michael Mayer, the 6-4, 265-pound "Jason Witten play-alike.''

Brugler writes: "As one plugged-in league source told me about Mayer and the Cowboys: 'I just can't see Dallas passing.'"

Well, is there "The Next Kelce'' in there somewhere? Or would "The Next Witten'' do?
