The Kansas City Chiefs are one of 20 teams that will move into Phase II of their offseason workout program on Monday, May, 20. They'll begin Organized Team Activities (OTAs), which are the final phase of the offseason workout program.
Team's are allowed 10 total OTA practice sessions, which the Chiefs separate into three different groups. OTAs include on-field workouts with individual and group components, including walkthroughs, but no live contact is permitted during these workouts. Howver, 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted during OTAs. No pads except protective knee and elbow pads, as well as helmets are permitted
Here's the schedule for the upcoming OTA workouts:
While OTAs are voluntary and not every player will attend every practice session, Phase III also includes the first mandatory component of the offseason. Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) allows teams to hold one mandatory minicamp for both rookies and veterans during Phase III of the offseason workout program. The Chiefs will hold their mandatory minicamp from June 11-13.
The Chiefs had strong attendance to start Phase 2 of the offseason program. Fans can expect strong turnout at this junction of the offseason. While there aren't expected to be any contract-related holdouts, one story to monitor is WR Rashee Rice. He kept away during Phase I of the offseason workout program and Andy Reid said they'd continue to assess his status as the offseason progressed. Rice, 24, is facing multiple felony charges for his involvement in a multi-vehicle crash in the Dallas area.
