Browns’ new stadium plans may be becoming more clear after latest news that will have fans feeling divided
Scott Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns’ future stadium plans are in limbo but the latest news may be helping those plans become more clear.

According to a report from Signal Cleveland, Browns’ reps have shown state lawmakers the team’s proposal for a new multipurpose stadium in Brook Park near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

Said stadium plans are stated to include a dome, which many folks believe is the right choice for football being played in Northeast Ohio near Lake Erie.

“The project was sold as an unprecedented economic development effort that includes a domed stadium and entertainment and lifestyle district that would be mostly privately funded – but would likely cost taxpayers significantly, too. The public portion of the stadium was pitched as a drawing on revenue generated by the project. (The renovation of Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, for instance, relied in part on admission and sales tax from the arena.)” - Signal Cleveland.

It is known that the Browns are down to two options for their future stadium plans. Either they will make a $1 billion renovation happen at the current stadium on the lakefront, or the new stadium would come about in Cleveland suburb Brook Park.

The history of the Browns is playing on the lakefront, but the idea of a more modern stadium with a dome and better infrastructure around it may be the way the Browns are leaning. Cleveland is hoping to get some state funding for the dome, so pitching the idea to state officials is not a bad idea at all.

On the other hand, the city of Cleveland has been hesitant about a funding agreement for the upgrades at the current stadium, so the team has the dome idea in their back pocket.

It won’t be until at least 2028 that a new stadium comes about, but plans are moving forward for what Cleveland is going to end up with.
