NBA Draft Scouting Report: Iowa State's Omaha Biliew

Prospect Profile

Not only does Biliew have an incredible personal story, but he's also a fantastic talent on the court. Already built like an NBA athlete, he’s a versatile forward that is still figuring out how to use his physical tools on both ends of the floor.

The Iowa State freshman can play traditional power forward, but also has wing skills and can thrive on the perimeter with some more polish. He’s an improved 3-point shooter, which will be a major swing skill for him ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft. Not only will that open up his offensive game, but it’s an incredibly important skill to enhance if he’s going to be a lottery selection. Biliew is fantastic in transition and has the ability to stretch the floor vertically.

The 6-foot-8 forward is starting to get more comfortable making plays with the ball in his hands and creating for himself. If he can continue to build upon that and get better at breaking down his defender or scoring off the bounce, his offensive game will really expand. The more he can be effective on the perimeter, the better it will be for his draft stock. 

The defensive side of the ball is where Biliew provides a ton of value. He should be able to defend upwards of three positions and has the upside to be one of the most versatile defenders in this draft. Overall, he’s the archetype of player that NBA teams are always searching for. He has the frame and length to take on bigger players in the paint, but the speed and footwork to also defend in space. 

Biliew should get a ton of opportunity at Iowa State, even as a freshman. He will have the chance to play a huge role and really showcase his upside in a variety of scenarios. A five-star recruit, he was arguably one of the ten best players in his high school class and opted to take his talents to a Big 12 program that should allow him to spread his wings and grow.
