Ohio State's Sheldon, McMahon Recognized for All-American Awards

The Buckeyes continue to represent the Big Ten well.

Graduate guard Jacy Sheldon was named to the Associated Press All-American Second Team Wednesday after leading Ohio State to a 25-5 record and a regular season conference title.

In addition, sophomore forward Cotie McMahon was named an honorable mention by the committee.

Sheldon stood at the helm for the Buckeyes all season after playing just 13 games total last season, including an Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament. However, in 2022, she earned an honorable mention, posting 19.7 points, 4.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

This season, Sheldon still headed Ohio State, recording 18 points on 51-38-87 splits, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game — the latter trailing on teammate and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year graduate guard Celeste Taylor.

Sheldon was also named a unanimous All-Conference First Team selection and named to the Sporting News All-American Second Team and the United States Basketball Writers Association All-American Third Team Tuesday.

McMahon helped Sheldon take the reins after a slightly slow start to the season. At the turn of the calendar year, the Centerville, Ohio, native averaged 14.8 points per game, including posting a career game with 33 points and 12 rebounds against current-No. 1 seed Iowa.

McMahon was also named an All-American honorable mention by the USBWA Tuesday.

Sheldon, McMahon, and the second-seeded Buckeyes host 15-seed Maine in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday at Value City Arena at noon, streaming on ESPN.
