Report: Jimbo Fisher Out At Texas A&M
Petre Thomas-USA TODAY Sports

The Jimbo Fisher era at Texas A&M seems to be coming to an abrupt end. Reports this morning are indicating that the school is moving to fire Fisher.

Texas A&M Moving To Fire Jimbo Fisher

Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports is reporting that this is a done deal.

School officials are expected to inform the coach Sunday morning of his dismissal, sources with knowledge of the decision tell Yahoo Sports, the groundwork of which was laid as early as Thursday.

Apparently, this has been in the works for a couple of days. The school signed him to a huge contract in hopes that he would be able to bring championships. He has gotten top recruiting classes but has been able to do nothing with it. Fisher was 45-25 during his time with the Aggies but has gone a mediocre 19-15 since 2020. To make matters worse the team has lost 10 of the last 15 against Power 5 opponents. The school is paying for excellence not mediocrity.

Going To Cost Them

This buyout won’t be cheap. Fisher still has eight years left on his contract and will most likely be due $75 million. If this does happen, it will be the largest buyout of a coach in college football history. It would also open up an attractive job for any coaching candidate. Texas A&M has a boatload of talent on the roster and has recently thrown around a lot of money to try and land a top program. The Aggies will clearly go for a high-profile coach and it will be one of the most desirable jobs in this hiring cycle.

The Fisher era at Texas A&M looks to be coming to an unceremonious ending. It isn’t official but all reports indicate it is a done deal.
