Oklahoma State HC Mike Gundy Comments on Jimbo Fisher's Firing and Texas A&M

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are coming off a tough 45-3 loss to the UCF Knights after riding a five-game winning streak. Still, the turnaround the team has had this season has been incredible, and the conference championship game is still in reach.

Now, this hasn't been the case for every team in college football that's needed a similar turnaround. Texas A&M is one of those teams, and the inability to turn things around was consequential for Jimbo Fisher. 

Fisher was fired by Texas A&M, opening up one of the best available jobs in college football for next season. Now, Fisher was unable to have any sort of turnaround and never really shined in the SEC as he had expected.

During his Monday afternoon press conference, Gundy was asked about the firing and his thoughts. What's unique about the firing is that Fisher will still receive over $75 million despite not having to coach anymore.

"People were texting me about it last night because of course, I don't know anything going on unless people text it to me," Gundy said. "I don't know what to say. It's pretty amazing. I would think that means they have a lot of money.

After hiring out a new staff and replacing support staff, the Aggies will be facing a steep price tag to compete in the SEC that'll only be getting tougher to win with the additions of Oklahoma and Texas next season. 

"Money causes problems everywhere. Money causes problems in college football, money causes problems in the NFL, money causes problems in marriage, money causes problems with administration, coaches and relationships. Money causes a lot of problems," Gundy continued.

Gundy stated he doesn't know anything going on with Texas A&M, though he did reference issues the Aggies had with NIL money over the past few years.

"There can be some firings that are unjust," Gundy said. "There are some that are pretty clear cut that we need to make a change. Somebody is going to make that decision."

It's interesting Gundy was asked about this considering people were coming for his job after the 2-2 start, then he, along with his staff, turned this around in a substantial way. His job seems to be safe for at least another few years after this season, and he seems capable of leading this team to a 12-team playoff in the near future.
