Michigan State football hosting Cal CB transfer Kaylin Moore

Michigan State football will be hosting Cal cornerback transfer Kaylin Moore this weekend. He brings with him plenty of experience.

Kaylin Moore was one of the Colorado players who joined the mass exodus following the 2022 season and in the first offseason of Deion Sanders. He decided to head to Cal where he put up solid numbers as a defensive back in 12 games and now Michigan State football is interested.

According to a report from SpartanTailgate, Moore will be on campus this weekend for an official visit.

While I doubt he’d start at cornerback in 2024 for the Spartans, I do think he’s versatile enough to play safety and he’d provide some much-needed help there. The 6-foot-0, 185-pound defensive back had 24 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups in 12 games for Cal last season. A year prior at Colorado, he had a career-high 35 tackles with a tackle for loss and two pass breakups.

Michigan State could use some help in the defensive backfield after losing Jaden Mangham, Marqui Lowery, and Khary Crump to the transfer portal. There just wasn’t enough depth back there to begin with.

Fortunately, the Spartans landed Arizona State cornerback transfer Ed Woods over Alabama and he is projected to start next season alongside either Dillon Tatum or Chance Rucker. Tatum could make the move to safety to help out the depleted position while Rucker showed flashes of stardom as a freshman in 2023.

Adding someone like Moore to the group would be huge for experience and leadership.

No, he’s not the most sought-after defensive back in the portal, but he brings with him 17 starts in 25 appearances over his three-year career and has 68 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and five pass breakups. Not too shabby for a backup option.

Michigan State football is clearly nowhere near done working the transfer portal.
