The Wisconsin Badgers (3-1, 1-0) in the Big Ten are coming off a bye week after a 38-17 win against the Purdue Boilermakers in Week 4. Starting quarterback Tanner Mordecai went 17-27 for 174 yards. Running back Braelon Allen had six carries for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the game.  Chez Mellusi carried the ball 11 times for 42 yards before suffering a season-ending leg injury in the third quarter.

In Week 6, one former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback, Deacon Hill get the opportunity to face his old team in Week 6.

Former Wisconsin Badgers QB Will Face Old Team In Week 6

Deacon Hill transferred from the Wisconsin Badgers football team before the 2023 football season. At that point, Hill had three years of eligibility left, as he posted on X:

Deacon Hill is now playing for another Big Ten team, the Iowa Hawkeyes. On Monday, it was announced that he will be the starting quarterback for the Hawkeyes, according to head coach Kirk Ferentz. “Deacon, unfortunately, has gotten more practice. I don’t mean that in a negative way, but he’s practiced more than a normal No. 2 guy would because of Cade’s first issue,” Ferentz said.

“I think that benefitted him a little bit tonight. But it’s one thing to practice. It’s another thing to step in there when the game is on the line, which it was. We had a lot of football to play. I thought he showed good poise out there. Played with confidence.”

Hill’s Stats With The Hawkeyes

Hill finished the game in Week 5 against Michigan State after starting quarterback Cade McNamara left the field with a left knee injury. Deacon Hill went 11-27 with 115 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Iowa Hawkeyes did have six dropped passes during that time in the game. They did come away victorious with a 26-16 win in their night game at Kinnick Stadium.

Hopefully, the practice reps continue to help with the former Wisconsin Badger quarterback’s confidence as the season approaches the halfway point.

Cade McNamara Injury

Cade McNamara will miss the rest of 2023 due to a left knee injury.  Leading up to the game against the Spartans, McNamara had 459 passing yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. He completed 3 of 5 passes for 46 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions before his injury last week. Before the season began, he missed some of spring practice because of a knee/quad injury.

The senior quarterback does have one year of eligibility remaining in his college career. He plans to use the extra year to get back on the field and play for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Deacon Hill is the current leader for the offense under center. Now, he will finally get his chance to showcase his talents after not playing much for the Wisconsin Badgers before this season started.

The Wisconsin Badgers will play at home against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Noon on Peacock! Deacon Hill will get an opportunity to start against Purdue this Saturday, October 7th!
