Former Cowboy Commits to Oregon After Breakout Season
Sara Diggins/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK

A former Cowboy is staying in the Pacific Northwest after a breakout season.

Cornerback Jabbar Muhammad will transfer to Oregon, according to his social media post Saturday. While he played at Oklahoma State for three seasons, he gained national attention for his impressive 2023 campaign at Washington.

Muhammad helped the Huskies to their second College Football Playoff appearance and a trip to the National Championship Game. While the Huskies defeated Texas in the Sugar Bowl, they were unable to overcome Michigan to win it all.

Muhammad’s decision to enter the transfer portal came around the same time that Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer left to take the same position at Alabama following Nick Saban’s retirement. His commitment to Oregon comes after Washington handed the Ducks their only two losses in 2023.

The second matchup in the Pac-12 Championship cost Oregon a spot in the College Football Playoff. Muhammad joins Oregon as it will look to compete for a national title next season.

With the Ducks’ move to the Big 10 in 2024, the former Cowboy will face both Washington and Michigan next season. He will look to match the success he had in the 2023 season.

In 15 games at Washington, Muhammad tallied 46 tackles and three interceptions while defending 20 passes. He earned All-Pac-12 Second Team honors and led the conference in passes defended.

Before transferring to Washington, Muhammad played in Stillwater for three seasons. In his final season with OSU, he had 48 tackles, one interception and a forced fumble.

He also contributed to OSU’s 12-win season in 2021, making his first career start in the Fiesta Bowl victory against Notre Dame.

With the former Cowboy’s success last season, Muhammad is sure to make an instant impact on the Ducks’ defense, which was among the best in the nation last season.
