Illinois Basketball Guard Sencire Harris has officially entered his name into the transfer portal. There had been rumors surrounding his possible transfer in recent weeks. However, a recent social media post by Harris seemed to put most fans at ease with the idea. The Redshirt Sophomore posted himself in Illini gear, as well as having positive things about his team. However, social media is social media, and in this line of business, anything can happen. This is Illinois second transfer of the season, including the loss of 5-man Dain Dainja.
Illinois sophomore shooting guard Sencire Harris has entered the transfer portal after averaging 3.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game this season. He was ranked No. 64 overall by @Rivals in the class of 2022.https://t.co/2QGuWzyVbJ

Harris played in 33 games as a Freshman in 2022-2023. Furthermore averaging 3.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game. Shooting 43% overall from the floor, and 31% from deep. He took a major step back in playing time as a Sophomore, leading to him taking a redshirt. The 6’4 guard was a versatile option for Illinois, as Harris is a tough defender. Sencire could really use his athleticism to crowd you, and pick pockets for steals. Quickly cutting into lanes, creating turnovers, and defensive breakdowns. Not the best scoring option for the Illini, but of course, he was early in the development process. Certainly, a player that Brad Underwood could have molded further. However, this roster is starting to stack. With Illinois most recent commitment from Kylan Boswell, as well as some of the upcoming priority guard visitors, playing time would have been a tough fight, once again. Harris has to potential to exit for another program, and make an immediate big impact.
