Weekly News and Notes
Conference Expansion/Slow Dissolution: The Big 12 is now the Big 10 and the Big 10 is now the Big 12 (that's the amount of teams they have at this exact moment, why not swap names?). That description might seem confusing but here's a handy visual aid to help you remember which is the moribund conference:

Nebraska has left the old Big 12 for the new Big 12. Colorado left the old Big 12 for the new Pac 11. In much less confusing conference expansion news, Boise State joined the Mountain West Conference. Colorado starts play in their new conference in 2012 while Boise State and Nebraska can't wait that long and will begin playing in their respective conferences in 2011.
Law & Order: Jeremiah Masoli, former starting QB for the Oregon Ducks, was dismissed from the team after a citation for marijuana possession on Monday. He was also caught driving with a suspended license. Before this incident, Masoli had pleaded guilty to theft in January and was placed on suspension by head coach Chip Kelly.
Rules are made to be broken: That's USC's attitude at least in light of the sanctions the NCAA handed down on Thursday. The Trojans are appealing the ruling. Bonne Chance! I think USC got off light and should probably just hush at this point. Or, they could go for the gusto and explain how the NCAA creates a culture which allows for violations to occur because the student-athletes are economically exploited and further, file amicus curiae briefs in Ryan Hart and Sam Keller's lawsuits against EA Sports and the NCAA.
Days Until College Football: 81. Dwight Dasher will lead Middle Tennessee State against Minnesota on that day. You might remember Dasher's more than sufficient swagger from last year's New Orleans Bowl. If not, take a look below at his highlights from 2009:
