Where have I been? Well ask Randy Bachman (yes, that's what he looked like. It's not Dewey Cox during his fat Brian Wilson phase).
As you might have heard, there's more to the Ohio State story than SI covered (which I thought didn't tell us much more than we already had heard about). Way more: Terrell Pryor has a golf addiction, which he allegedly got to soothe with free rounds of golf.
There was plenty of distracting news to cover at Big East Coast Bias because of the Bill Stewart drama, which the blogs had right, by the way. Despite the "98% hooey" talk from a traditional media source, hooey plummeted to zero yesterday when Stewart was fired by resigned from the head coaching job at West Virginia. In any event, the Smoking Musket did an admirable job in covering the story.
Auburn's head coach Gene Chizik got a big salary bump for winning that national championship. He'll now make $3.5 million per season through 2015.
The NCAA is hearing Tennessee's infractions case right now. Current USC head coach and former Vols head coach Lane Kiffin was in attendance for four hours. He was thrilled to be out of the hearing room in such a short time compared to the three days he had to endure because of USC's violations. About that, former head coach Pete Carroll thinks USC losing the 2004 BCS title (his only one) was "so unfortunate." Reggie Bush also hasn't returned that Heisman Trophy yet.
Things aren't exactly slowing down this summer for me. In addition to covering the L.A. Galaxy and LSU football, I'm also writing about the women's World Cup over at the Purple Y!. The first thing I wrote was about the 1999 Final between the USA and China. There will be plenty more where that came from on the weekdays.
