2011 LSU Spring Game Recap

White defeated Purple 22-7 in LSU's 2011 Spring Game. The most entertaining part of the game for me was hearing Les Miles mic'd up for the duration.
The player of the game had to be RB Spencer Ware. Ware rushed for 94 yards and 2 TDs. He also had 2 catches for 50 yards. Beyond the numbers, Ware's power inside the tackles and his vision and ability to make sharp cuts upfield were very impressive. As we know from last year against Auburn, Ware can throw a surprise pass as well.
The most accurate QB of the three who played (Jordan Jefferson, Zach Mettenberger and Jarrett Lee) was JUCO transfer Zach Mettenberger. He connected with Kadron Boone on a beautiful 60 yard bomb to start the second half. The starting QB Jordan Jefferson played through an injury on his throwing hand that predated today's game. He looked similar to last year in his decision making. He also threw an INT on a ball he let get too much air under it. Jarrett Lee had his moments but threw a redzone INT when flushed from the pocket.
Here are the QB numbers: Jordan Jefferson 4/14 102 yards, 1 INT, Zach Mettenberger 5/8 86 yards 1 TD, Jarrett Lee 9/14 63 yards, 1 INT. When the rushing stats are added in, things get interesting as there was a lost fumble by Lee and a fumble by Jefferson. Here are the QBs by Positive Impact Factor: Mettenberger: 72.7; Jefferson 23.5; Lee: -23.3.
The defense wasn't allowed to do much, but Tharold Simon looked really impressive in the secondary. Tyrann Mathieu also played very well before he was subbed. Remember this name for the fall: Ronnie Vinson. Vinson, a DB, made 10 tackles (7 solo) to lead all defensive players to go with 1 INT and a pass breakup.
The most frustrating development: first year offensive coordinator Steve Kragthorpe's addiction to the pitch as a way of handing the football off. I lost count of how many occurred after 9 of these plays.
